What are the costs to participate?

All dates and prices are posted on the RunSignUp page for the Seaway Run. Please be advised that prices will increase each month leading the race.

 

What is included in my registration?
All event registrations will include a Seaway Run shirt.  Participants will also have the option during registration to opt out of receiving any shirt ($5 discount). Participants in the Half Marathon will also recieve a finishers medal. 

 

How do I know if I’m registered correctly?
If you register online, you’ll receive an e-mail confirmation of your registration. Please check that the information (address, shirt size, age, etc.) on your is correct.  If not, please click here and type your name in the search field; click on your name and select the “More Details” tab, then use your password to access your account and make any changes.  The last day to make changes online is June 20, 2018.  After that date, please let us know at the Solutions Desk during Packet Pick-Up on Friday June 22, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at LC Walker Arena, 955 Fourth Street, Muskegon; we will update the database so your results are posted correctly.

Can I change events if I have already registered?
Changes can be made through June 14 online at RunSignUp.com – click here and type your name in the search field; click on your name and select the “More Details” tab, then use your password to access your account and make the change. You may also switch events after you pick up your race packet at Packet Pick-up at LC Walker Arena on Friday June 22, 11 a.m. to 7  p.m.  Indicate that you wish to switch events and someone will direct you to the correct location.  A $10.00 processing fee will be charged for all event transfers. No new registrations will be accepted on Saturday, June 23, 2018. Results will not be posted for those participating in events for which they were not registered. All entries are non-refundable and non-transferable.

 

Can someone else pick up my bib number and race packet?

Yep!

What shirts are available this year?
We are consoildating all the shirt design to ONE SHIRT this year. There is no option of cotton vs. tech. We think that you will like the adjustment for 2018! 
Can someone ride beside me on a bike?
No!!!!!! For the safety of all participants, personal bicycles are not allowed on the race courses.  Only official pace bike riders are allowed on the course.
Where do I park on Friday and Saturday?
FRIDAY JUNE 22 – Healthy Lifestyles Expo/Packet Pickup  – parking is available near LC Walker Arena, 955 Fourth Street, Muskegon.
SATURDAY JUNE 23 – RACE DAY MORNING: There is plenty of public parking in the downtown area.  Additional parking is on Shoreline Drive at Heritage Landing and the Mart Dock. Click here for a parking map.
Where and when do I check in for my event?
Event Check-in/Packet Pick-up will be on Friday June 22 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at LC Walker Arena, 955 Fourth Street, Muskegon. You may also check-in on Saturday, June 23, 2018 starting at 6 am at LC Walker Arena.
Can I check my gear while I participate in the event?
Complimentary gear check will be available near the Information Tent. No personal bags will be accepted at Bag Check. You will be asked to remove things from any bag you may have brought and place them in the plastic, drawstring bag provided by the Mercy Health.  Claim your gear after your event no later than 12:00 noon on June 23, 2018. Mercy Health Seaway Run cannot be held responsible for lost or stolen items. Participants are responsible for any clothing articles they choose to discard at the start and/or along the course. Security will be sweeping both areas and will dispose of items found unattended. Event officials do not collect clothing articles discarded at the start or along the course.
Are the courses certified?
The Half Marathon is USATF-certified. The 5k and 10K are not certified courses BUT has been measured to be the correct race distance. 

 

Is pace information available at the start? Will pacers be offered?
There will be pace per minute signs at the starting line for each event. Please line up in the appropriate area according to your pace.
GAZELLE Pacers, sponsored by Gazelle Sports, will be available for the Lake Michigan Half Marathon to pace at 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5, 10, 10.5, 11 and 12 minutes per mile. If you’d like to run the Lake Michigan Half Marathon with a pacer, look for them on race day in the start area near the pace per minute signs, wearing brightly colored GAZELLE Pacer shirts.  Start with your Official Pacer and keep them in sight to throughout the race to hit your desired finish time.
How do I wear my participant bib?
Bib instructions: 
Attach the bib Horizontally on your torso – NOT on your back, NOT on your hat or in your pocket.
Use a safety pin at all four corners.
Do Not Fold or Mutilate the chip.
Do Not Remove the chip.
Do Not Cover bib with anything (including arm when stopping your watch.)
The mats need to “see” the bib on your torso.
I won’t be able to participate. Can I still pick up my shirt?
Yes, absolutely! Please stop by and pick up your shirt and participant bib during Late Registration/Packet Pick-up Friday June 22, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at LC Walker Arena, 955 Fourth Street, Muskegon or at Packet Pick-up on Saturday, June 23, 2017 beginning at 6 am. at the Event Information Tent. Shirts WILL NOT be mailed out to participants that do not show up. Sorry! 

 

What will be available at the aide (spirit) stations?
Kohley Superior Water and ice will be available at the pre-event station at the start / finish line.
Spirit Stations on all courses offer Kohley Superior Water at each location, at approximately every 1.25 miles.
Half Marathon course:   Gatorade Drink is available at the 3.5 mile, the 5.5 mile, the 8.5 mile, the 10.5 mile, and the 11 mile Spirit Stations  and Gu Energy Gel is available at the 7 mile and 9.5 mile Spirit Stations.
Seaway Run 10K course: Gatorade is available at the 4.5 mile marker. 
Seaway Run 5k course: Three Spirit Stations offer Kohley Superior Water at the .75 mile, 1.25 mile and 2 mile Spirit Stations
Will there be portable restrooms available? Where will they be located?
Regular and handicap portable restrooms will be located near the start/finish line area.   Portable restrooms will also be available approximately every 2 miles along the race courses. Please check the course maps for approximate locations. 

 

When/where will I find race results?
Within minutes of your finish you can see your results!   Printed on your bib is a Unique QR code. Scan this code with your smart phone to see your results.   QR code readers will also be available in the finish area.  Individual results will posted here after 4 pm on race day. Printed results will also be posted near the awards ceremony area.

 

Will there be showers available after the event?
We are working on this! 

 

What training resources are available?
Our Race Director has developed an at home training plan for all distances; the Muskegon Family YMCA provides a pre-race Training Class, race sponsor Gazelle Sports also offers a variety of training programs. Get details here.

 

Will there be an expo?
The free Mercy Health Healthy Lifestyle Expo features 40+ vendors and takes place during Late Registration/Packet Pick-up at LC Walker Arena on Friday, June 22, from 11 am to 7 pm.
What are the minimum age requirements for the different events?
Half Marathon – minimum 12 years of age by June 22, 2018.
Seaway Run 10K, 5K Run, and Community Walk – all ages welcome.
What are the registration deadlines?
Prices are posted on the RunSignUp page along with dates of the price increases.

Can I get a refund or transfer my bib to a friend or family member if I registered but can’t participate?
There are no refunds or transfers of bibs to another person. However, if you’d like to move to another event (i.e. currently registered for the 10K but would like to run the 5K), you can make the change online through June 14 at RunSignUp.com – click here and type your name in the search field; click on your name and select the “More Details” tab, then use your password to access your account and make the change.  You may also switch events after you pick up your race packet at Packet Pick-up at LC Walker Arena on Friday June 22, 11 a.m. to 7  p.m.  Indicate that you wish to switch events and someone will direct you to the correct location.  A $10.00 processing fee will be charged for all event transfers.

 

Can I buy last year’s shirts?
Yes, you can purchase last year’s shirts at the Expo. Limited sizes are available.

 

What are the awards for the races?
SEAWAY RUN 5K – awards given to the top 3 finishers in each age group. There is not a separate kids award for 2018. 
SEAWAY RUN 10K – awards given to the top 3 finishers in each age group.
HALF MARATHON – Each finisher receives a unique finisher medal; additional awards are given to the top 3 finishers in each age group.

 

Is handicapped parking available?
Handicapped spots are available throughout the downtown area. The closest to the start/finish line are in the lot behind the Chamber of Commerce building (across from the Holiday Inn, corner of 3rd and Morris Street)

What are the typical weather conditions?
Average temps range from the low 60’s to 80’s at 7:00 am and climb throughout the morning. Visit FOX 17 during the event week for weather updates and information.

 

Is there a time limit?
Yes. The finish line will close at 11 a.m. Participants finishing after 11 a.m. will not be included in the official results posted at this website. Runners on the race courses after 10:30 a.m. are participating at their own risk without race services
Can I push my baby in a stroller?
NO baby joggers, strollers, pets, roller blades or bicycles will be allowed on the course during any timed event for the safety of all participants.  All are welcomed in the Community Fun Walk.

 

How will my race time be recorded?
A disposable bib chip timing system is used for all timed events. Your bib chip will be attached to the participant bib you receive at Late Registration/Packet Pick-Up. Please keep your Bib Chip attached to your participant bib on the front of your shirt on event day to ensure your results are recorded properly.

 

Do I have to wear my participant bib?
All registered participants will receive a bib number that must be worn on race day. The bib must be visible and worn on the front outside of your shirt during the entire event for viewing by race officials and for readability of photography proofs. Please do not alter the bib in any way or wear it on your shorts/pants.

 

Can I listen to an iPod or portable music player while participating?
Safety is our number one concern. While you are welcome to wear an iPod or MP3 player, we recommend that you only use one earbud and be alert to your surroundings, most roads on the race courses are shared by motor vehicle traffic (race lanes are marked.)
Where is the starting line?
The starting line is at 4th and Western in downtown Muskegon. Participants will line up in order of event start times and their personal pace per mile.

 

Where is the finish line?
The finish line is at 4th Street and Western Ave. Post-event refreshments will be available as soon as you cross the finish line.

 

Why do you call them “Spirit Stations” instead of just “Aide” or “Water” stations?
Because we encourage the volunteers at each location to cheer you on and boost your spirits as they hand you things to rehydrate and energize your body!

 

Are there hills on the course?
The Half Marathon and 10K has one significant hill. Just before the 12 mile marker / 4 mile marker is “Cole’s Hill”, a gradual 15% downhill grade for about 1/8 mile.

 

Will my results be posted if I finish after 11:00 am?
No. Participants who finish the Half Marathon or any other race event after the finish line closes at 11 a.m. will be considered unofficial finishers and will not be included in the Official Results that are posted to the website.  In addition, the Half Marathon runners not maintaining a 3.75 hours finish pace are participating at their own risk without race services.

 

What post-event refreshments will be available?
Post-event refreshments will be available for all participants after crossing the finish line. This includes, but is not limited to, water, oranges, bagels, bananas, yogurt, and popsicles. We will also have a craft beer tent for 2018! 

Can my friends and family follow my progress?
Printed on your bib is a Unique QR code. Scan this code with your smartphone to see your results within minutes of your finish! You can upload your results to your social media platforms to share with friends and family. This means you can track your friends and family member’s progress and see their event results as soon as they upload them. No need to register, this is a free service.
